Top Ten Miami Meals for Under $10

By | October 10th, 2010 | 8 Comments

In no particular order, here are ten places in (and around) Miami where you can eat well for a Hamilton or less.

1. Steve’s Pizza
12101 Biscayne Blvd
North Miami, FL 33181

It’s that sweet sauce and their generosity with toppings. Open until 4 am, so perfect for late night munchies.

2. Bali Cafe
109 NE 2nd Ave
Miami, FL 33132

Authentic Indonesian food catering to the Indonesian employees that work on the cruise ships. Gado Gado is the delicious signature dish, $9.99 for a large plate.

3. Dogma
7030 Biscayne Blvd
Miami, FL 33138

Love these dogs, which average about $4 a piece. Vegetarians can substitute a veggie dog in any of the signature styles for a dollar more. My recommendation: the Chicago.

4. Garden of Eatin’
136 Nw 62nd St
Miami, FL 33150

Mrs. Brown cooks up vegan Caribbean-inspired foods in a homey joint in Little Haiti. Platters for $7 or $10 with substantial portions, usually a protein (like a fake meat), veggies and brown rice. Go during the day to make sure everything’s still available.

5. Publix
If you have to ask where it’s located, you’re not from around here.

Duh, Publix subs are the best. I like them even better after they’ve been in the fridge for a while, and everything’s all soggy and stuck together. But even if you’re not in the mood for a sub, you can probably get down on some pre-made sushi.

6. Pita Plus
18833 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33180-2839
and
1049 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139-5017
(Also one in Hollywood and one in Sunrise)

Not sure if they’re run by the same owners, but they’re both delicious. Authentic Israeli-style felafel sandwiches, which means in addition to the basics (felafel, hummus, tahini, and lettuce) you get all the tasty, colorful middle-eastern salads. Also, you can load up on delicious Israeli pickled cucumbers (aka pickles), carrots and cabbage for free.

7. Sage Bagel
800 East Hallandale Beach Blvd.
Hallandale Beach, FL 33009

I know it’s been touted before on this site, but Sage Bagel is tops for brunch. Best bagel in the city and maybe the world. All the bagel platters except the pickled lox are under $10.

8. 8oz. Burger Bar
1080 Alton Road
Miami Beach, FL 33139

Almost all the burgers are under $10. If you get a burger with sweet potato fries on the side (highly recommended), it’ll cost you more than $10, but you won’t regret it.

9. La Estancia
17870 Biscayne Blvd.
Aventura, FL 33160

and

4425 Ponce de Leon Blvd.
Coral Gables, FL 33146

A great Argentinean restaurant-cum-grocery. Delicious empanadas, sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. I’ve only been to the Aventura location, which, from the looks of it, has done steady business throughout the recession. I bet the Coral Gables La Estancia is as good or better. (Update: I bet wrong, according to commenter “CR”.)

10. Sakaya Kitchen

3401 North Miami Avenue
Miami, FL 33127

Plenty of Korean goodies here for under $10. The pork belly “Banh Mi” Buns can turn a bad day good.

After lunching at 8oz. today, I realize you’re most likely not going to get out of there for under $10 (though it’s possible). You will however get out there happily stuffed. The prices on its online menu differ from its restaurant menu, so sincere apologies if anyone went there with exactly $10 and ended up washing dishes.

As a third generation bagel baker,I put Bagel Bar East in North Miami ahead of Sage in the bagel department. BBE still uses my dad’s original recipe and they look “marvelous” also darling. Sage’s bagels have that stepped on look although they are tasty.

I defer to you, Bagel King. I love Bagel Bar East too, it’s just so far away…

You are unwise to bet on the Coral Gables La Estancia. It is either closed and empty or out of business.

that explains a lot. the one in Aventura, which I go to weekly, is very much in business and routinely packed for lunch. highly recommended.
