Sketchy #1: Ciggy, Dipla, Wolfette, Mad Man

By | November 9th, 2010 | 6 Comments

I see a lot of faces as I go around the city taking photos. Some of them intrigue me for one reason or another. It could be a nose or a look or a hairstyle or a particular wrinkle of brow. It could be that I’m a weirdo. Whatever it is, I’m going to start doing iPad sketches of the notable faces I encounter in the Miami crowd. If you see some creep at the bar pretending not to be sketching you behind his Shirley Temple, that’s me. Please hold that pose.

Here are a few sketches from recent outings.

Sketchy Miami Ciggy
People always say, “Your camera is an icebreaker. It’s a great way to meet girls.” They fail to mention it’s also a great way to meet this guy.

Sketchy Miami Dipla
This girl caught my eye at the Diplo show at BAR last month. Did I say “caught”? I mean “punched”.

Sketchy Miami Wolfette
I gave this girl a Wolfcyclist t-shirt after the Halloween Critical Mass ride. It came in handy as a tourniquet when her boyfriend cut his knuckles on my chin.

Sketchy Miami Mad Man
I saw this gentleman on the first night of Funkshion Fashion Week at the Setai. I complemented his suit. I came to in the Everglades a week later.

When all these people see your sketches of them- then you are really going to wake up in a ditch in the Everglades, with a gash on your chin, next to the first guy.

Great example of the true Miami. Beautiful, interesting, dangerous, shady… It’s why I love and hate Miami equally. Keep it up and try not to get killed for your art. It’d be a shame.
