Pharrell + N.E.R.D. at Rainbow City Art Basel Party
By Jordan Melnick | December 3rd, 2010 | 2 CommentsDid anyone else expect the Art Basel influx to be a bit more dramatic? I realize traffic has worsened, but getting around isn’t a nightmare, nor (amazingly) is parking. And there was a lot more elbow room at N.E.R.D.’s AOL/Paper Magazine/Friends With You-sponsored Rainbow City show last night than I expected. Don’t get me wrong: the Design District was bumping. But I was prepared for flash mob. Of course, Basel official is only getting underway, so we’ll see how things shake out through the weekend. For now, here are some pics from the inflatable playland called — per AOL’s focus group findings — Rainbow City.

DJ Mia Moretti spun some candied crowd-pleasers before N.E.R.D.’s set.

There would have been a LOT LESS elbow room had they let people in. Even those who had RSVP’d weren’t allowed in. Crowds outside were pretty upset. We could see that the place wasn’t packed and it seemed like Pharrell was performing to a pretty empty lawn. After getting turned away here, I headed to the Bally Love party, and caught Peaches and her (his?) act.
Where ya headed tonight?
Pashmina, yeah I’ve noticed a lot of artificial lines-out-the-door this week (e.g. at the Scope party last night). Tonight probably starts with the Coral Morphologic reception at the ARt Deco Welcome Center and then not sure. Still game planning.
