Miami New Year’s Eve 2010 Events List, Wiki Style

Miami NYE Thinker

The age-old question: What the hell to do for NYE in Miami?

With the sun setting on 2010, we had set out to compile a list of the Top Ten Miami New Year’s Eve Events Under $20 but quickly realized such a list would of necessity include several flat-out lies. There’s precious little going on in Miami this NYE that will cost you less than $20, and on that short list few of the items deserve top-ten designation. I know there are a lot of folks out there touting and tweeting Miami’s end of the year bona fides, but to be honest, in my experience, NYE in the MIA tends to suck. Of course, this could very well indicate a lack of imagination (or money) on my part. So, in an effort to avoid another Magic City NYE devolving into a whiskey-fueled game of Cranium, we’ve decided to take a cue from wiki culture and make this list open-source. I’ll get it started with a few of the cheaper events I found that have potential. We would LOVE for you guys to add to the list in the comment thread. Feel free to suggest any events, including house parties, that you think are a worthwhile way to kiss 2010 goodbye. Together, God willing, we can make this New Year’s Eve one to remember.

$20 is pretty low, especially for Miami.

    I’m contemplating this event:

    but it’s $50 or $60 per.

It’s true, $20 is low. But I’m not sure how much difference spending $30 more is going to make. Interesting atmosphere promised at that event btw:

“Atmosphere: Midgets, Dancers, BALL DROP Count down, champagne toast, mandatory kiss at midnight ;), amazing sound system, lighting to blow your mind, lots of randomness! and sooo much more…. I have lots of surprises instore for you…. I’ve created this night just for you… and you soooo deserve it!”

    You had me at midgets?

Update on Lou’s Dropping of the Pig:

“@beachedmiami well that’s us … Free that is , PETA got upset about the dead frozen pig so we got a plastic pig”

    See tweet HERE.

Sounds like a decent time at Lou’s, if you’re looking for a low key and breezy NYE.

“@beachedmiami yeah …. Free cooked pig, free champagne and party favors for all… For good luck, and prosperity in the new year”

    See original tweet.

not to add to the pressure, but i just read patti smith’s “just kids.” a theme of the book is that what you do on new years foreshadows the way you will spend your entire year, in some way or other.

booo $150 south beach clubs. why should $20 be “pretty low”? if we had some good public spaces in miami, we wouldn’t need to pay just to be.

i’m thinking of getting out of the city entirely, maybe book a night in the keys. if not, i’m with taylor. potluck.

Arielle, your and Patti’s sentiments echoed on this diver dude’s meet up page. It would be awesome to be underwater (and breathing) when 2010 gives way to 2011. But not for the faint of heart … or scared of shark.

Arielle, we have some excellent public spaces. The entire beach is a public space, so far as I am aware. And I think paying 20 dollars to be entertained is eminently reasonable.
