1. Loose Cannons On The Run, February 3
This month the Loose Cannons race is leaving from Revolution Cycles in the Grove. It will be a six-mile race and even the last racer to finish will get a prize: a drink ticket. All racers will be entered in a raffle for tickets to the Flogging Molly concert at The Fillmore.
2. Six-Two Sundays, February 6
Join the Miami Bike Scene/MIA Fixed on their weekly training ride for the MS150 Bicycle Charity Ride. The ride goes through South Miami, Pinecrest, Cutler Bay, Black Point Marina, and Homestead. It’s a 62-mile ride including a brief stop at Robert Is Here, the popular fruit stand. The average pace is 15 mph. Anyone on any bicycle able to sustain that speed is encouraged to participate. Please make a donation to the team while you’re at it. It’s all for a good cause!
3. Rosewood Winter Series, February 6
The Rosewood Winter Series continues at the Brian Piccolo in Cooper City.
4. Emerge Critical Mass, February 12
5. Get In Gear Bike Ride, February 12
Get in Gear is a family-friendly, 10-mile ride with restroom and water stops that North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre hopes will encourage his constituents to get in shape. For maximum safety, the North Miami Police Department will be escorting the riders.
6. Coconut Cup Championship Series, February 13
The sixth installment of this year’s Coconut Cup Championship is bringing mountain-biking fun to Oleta River State Park. This is your chance to win some of the $25,000 in cash and prizes from the Coconut Cup. If you haven’t been mountain biking in Oleta yet, you really don’t know what you’re missing. It’s a beautiful park on the Oleta River right next to Biscayne Bay, with trails for beginner and advanced riders. Bike and helmet rentals are available.
7. Miami Critical Mass, February 25
Take back the streets during Miami Critical Mass. On the last Friday of the month (as always), riders will meet up at the Government Center Metrorail Station for a group ride open to all cyclists. Keep an eye on The Miami Bike Scene for details about the route, and check out our past Critical Mass posts if you’re a CM virgin.
8. La Roootaaa Mountain Biking Series, February 26
La Roootaaa, a USAC-sanctioned series suitable for mountain bikers of all levels, kicks off in February at Oleta River Park. This is a perfect opportunity to rack up some points toward your category upgrade. Marlon, the race director, promises great fun for the family, including music and barbecue. If you have any questions, you can call the series 24/7 hotline at 786-385-4204.
9. Tour de Tacos, February 27
Emerge Miami brings us another food-themed ride this month with the Tour de Tacos. The stops are still being worked out, but Emerge suggests bringing an empty stomach and a full wallet as there will be plenty of tacos, nachos, and burritos (and maybe even a beer stop) for your tasting pleasure. And since you’ll be biking to get to these places, there should be no need to feel guilty about the calories. Right?
10. Tour de Broward, February 27
Yes, it’s called the Tour de Broward, but it’s close enough and it’s for a good cause. The second annual TDB will benefit the Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital “Dreams” Unit, which treats children diagnosed with cancer. It’s open to cyclists, runners, walkers, and even spinners. Cyclist or not, this is the perfect event to enjoy a day at Miramar Regional Park and help a very worthy cause.
