Valentine’s Day evokes different emotions in different folks depending on how likely one is to get laid on this loaded holiday. To celebrate the agony and the ecstasy, the joy and the pity, the lonesomeness and, ultimately, the love, we’ll be posting one Valentine’s related song after another for the rest of the day until we’ve pulled at the heart strings of every last Miami lover. Suggestions are welcome — nay, DEMANDED. Let’s make this a Happy Valentunes Day together.
Alright, the Valentune request that will takes us to midnight comes from my very own lovely valentine, and I have to say it’s quite a beautiful choice. (Seriously — I have to say that.) Valentune #29: “Madame George” by Van Morrison. May we all find “the love that loves the love that loves the love that loves the love that loves to love the love that loves to love the love that loves.”
No one can love you like you, eh? Thanks to djkmia for requesting Valentune #28: “In Love With Myself” by David Guetta.
Arielle Angel breaks out the 69 for Valentune #27: “Chicken With Its Head Cut Off” by The Magnetic Fields. (See Arielle’s comment for more Valentunes by Dylan and Leonard Cohen.)
I really wanted “Love Wheel” but couldn’t find a good-quality video, so Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You In The End” stands in as Valentune #26. ” … unless you step out into the light, the light?”
Kisses to Willy for Valentune #26: “Loomer” by My Bloody Valentine.
Valentune #25 — “If I Needed You” by Townes Van Zandt — comes via Facebook from Michael Leonard, who offers the following caveat: “I should warn you that I disdain Valentine’s Day and attempts at ‘ironic’ Valentine’s Day celebrations in equal measure. I prefer simply to ignore it. But everyone loves a love song. ‘If I Needed You’ is probably the most plaintive, and it has my favorite line: ‘You will miss sunrise if you close your eyes/And that would break my heart in two.'” What a romantic.
Thanks to commenter Danielle for requesting Valentune #24: “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes.
Valentune #23: “My Funny Valentine” covered by Rickie Lee Jones
Valentune #22: “Love Letter” by Psycho Realm
