1. Biscayne/Everglades Greenway Bike Festival, April 2 and 3
The third annual Biscayne/Everglades Bike Festival returns to Homestead with a 62 mile ride on Sunday, April 3rd. The event is free and for mountain bikes/fat tires only. (See update in comments.)
2. Rosewood Series, April 3
The 2nd race in Series I, of the Rosewood Series will be held on April 3rd at Brian Piccolo Park. These races are part of the USA Cycling ranking system and require a USAC license and entry fees. If you’re into racing, this event is not to be missed.
The recently formed Florida Velodrome Association is holding weekly track races at the Brian Piccolo Velodrome every Thursday night (weather permitting.) The FVA was formed to develop the sport of track cycling through a racing program for athletes of all capabilities. USAC license and entry fees required.
4. Loose Cannons On The Run, April 7
Miami’s longest running street race is back on April 7th. This time the race is changing directions a bit, starting at Mooies in Miami Shores and ending at BAR in Downtown Miami. The 6 mile race includes bar tab prizes for the first fixed and first road racers and free drinks for first female racer and for the DFL.
5. Miami Beach Community Ride, April 9
The Miami Beach Bicycle Center and the City of Miami Beach bring you their monthly community ride on Saturday, April 9, at 9am. This ride is escorted by the Miami Beach Police Department and includes rest stops.
6. Emerge Miami Critical Mass, April 9
Join Emerge Miami, the group behind popular rides like “Food Truck Frenzy” and “Tour de Tacos” for their monthly Saturday Critical Mass ride. This month’s ride will depart from the Government Center Metrorail Station.
7. La Roootaa Mountain Biking Series, April 9
The 2nd race of the La Roootaa Mountain Biking Series will be held on Saturday April 9 at Oleta. Mountain biking races are truly enjoyable events, with music, barbecues, and entertainment for the whole family. La Roootaa promises a day of fun for racers and spectators alike.
8. Street.Art.Cycles, April 24
Bicycling through Wynwood’s outdoor exhibits is an intimate and personal experience, the equivalent of strolling through the halls of a great outdoor museum. This Emerge Miami ride meets at Allapattah Metrorail Station at 10 a.m.
9. 2011 Kendall Classic, April 24
The 2011 Kendall Classic will be held in the vicinity of the Tamiami Airport for cash prizes. This is a USA Cycling sanctioned series that counts for the national ranking system. Either USAC or UCI license required to race. Registration available online or in person on Fridays and Saturdays at Bike Masters in Kendall.
10. Miami Critical Mass, April 29th
Miami Critical Mass returns on the last Friday of the month. This is a group ride and a celebration of bicycles for cyclists of all levels — not a race. Meet at Government Center at 6:30 p.m. and keep an eye on the Miami Bike Scene and the Miami Critical Mass Facebook group for more information. I strongly suggest that anyone planning to take part in this ride takes a look at the route and the guidelines (yes, there are rules) in advance. You can see photos from past rides HERE.
