1. Plains, The Dewars, John Ralston (May 6 @ The Green Room; FREE)

Dubbed the SW 3rd Ave Music Festival and hosted by the Broward New Times, this will be the first Plains show in six months and your first chance to catch the new material from their forthcoming debut full-length. Lavola, The New, and Young Circles will also take the stage. Learn more HERE.

2. Shoppers (May 8 @ Sweat Records; $5)

The straight-ahead punk trio from Syracuse, NY, returns to Sweat for the last show of a 13-stop East Coast trip to help knock out an all-ages punk Sunday. Meat, No Children, and Drowning the Virgin Silence are also on the bill. Learn more HERE.

3. Girl Talk (May 19 and 20 @ The Fillmore; $31)

Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk returns to Miami with a sack of samples so nostalgia-inducing you won’t realize you’re doing the Running Man until you make fun of someone else for doing it. Gillis will play back-to-back nights for your sweating-profusely-on-others pleasure. Learn more HERE and stay tuned for a possible ticket giveaway.

4. Crocodiles (May 20 @ The Vagabond; $?)

After having to cancel a big chunk of their tour due to a death in the family late last year, Crocodiles will finally make it to Miami. The San Diego duo’s sound sits comfortably in South Florida’s resurgent scene, with fits of dirty psych rock, hazy shoegaze, and pop undertones. Learn more HERE.

5. Bonnie Prince Billy & the Cairo Gang (May 30 @ Radio-Active Records; May 31 @ Sweat; FREE)

When a musician like Will Oldham blesses your town with his presence, you go. After releasing 22 EPs and 17 studio albums of poetic and musical bliss, Oldham will leave you wondering why the hell his show was free. Learn more HERE.

Extra: Love Handles, This Heart Electric, Cheveu (May 3 @ Churchills; ?)

A grimy get-together of local fuzz and bedroom rock, the show will go on even if Cheveu doesn’t (the French band’s myspace announced that their U.S. tour was canceled). Bad Dream and Partial People are also on the bill with a possible set by seductress punks Snakehole. Learn more HERE.
