The California indie rockers who stole everyone’s heart and never returned it are set to make their Miami debut at Grand Central on Tuesday, July 10.
Best Coast singer/guitarist Bethany Cosentino, the closest thing to indie’s leading lady, and bassist/guitarist Bobb Bruno summoned Jon Brion’s production skill to record the follow up to Crazy for You, their gritty surf pop debut. The resulting LP, The Only Place, illuminates the band’s natural twangy (pseudo-country) jangle, Cosentino’s Tracy Bonham-like commanding-yet-girlish singing, and vintage pop songwriting (all without giving in to Brion’s sometimes overwhelming whimsy). Nashville’s Those Darlins, an all-girl trio that plays a sneeringly punkish interpretation of Shangri-La’s styled pop, will open for Best Coast.
We have a pair of tickets for the show to give away to one lucky fan. To enter to win, explain why Miami’s coast is — or isn’t — the Best Coast in the comment section of this post. We will announce the winner on the Beached Miami Facebook page on Monday afternoon. Until then, listen up.
Update: And the winner is…
