Instrumental rockers from Athens, Ga., Maserati announced a U.S. tour that includes a November 1 appearance in Miami at Churchill’s Pub. This month, the prog-psych-space (you pick, they all fit) rock foursome released Maserati VII, the band’s first album since drummer Jerry Fuchs died after falling five stories down an elevator shaft in 2009 at the age of 34. Fuchs, who also drummed for !!!, The Juan Maclean, and LCD Soundsystem, was replaced by Mike Albanese, who has drummed for Cinemechanica and Bit Brigade.
“So, how does one replace the irreplaceable?” wrote Albanese in an insightful blog post on Modern Drummer’s website. “It certainly wasn’t happening behind the kit, I can tell you that … I fixated on compositional methodology. Obsessively. In line at the bank, at the car wash. Everywhere.”
Maserati will be joined at Churchill’s by Pittsburgh’s Majeure (formed by Zombi drummer A.E. Paterra) and South Florida’s Mothersky, Shroud Eater, Mortals, Bulletproof Tiger, Astrokats, and The Tunnel. Pre-sale tickets for the 18+ show are available for $10 on Sweat Records’ website.
