Ticket Giveaway! Talib Kweli with RES at the Arsht Center
By William Alton | October 14th, 2012 | 28 CommentsIdle Warship formed in 2009 when Talib Kweli, one of the finest lyricists in hip hop history, and singer RES (aka Shareese Ballard) cemented nearly 10 years of on-and-off collaborative work. In 2011, Kweli and RES released Idle Warship’s debut album, Habits of the Heart, which showcased Kweli’s impossibly quick and cerebral rhymes and RES’s world-class pop vocals in an electro-pop landscape.
This coming Friday, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the duo will team up with Miami-based conductor Sam Hyken and an 11-piece chamber orchestra to merge the worlds of classical music and hip hop. Kweli will also perform solo material from his vast discography.
We have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky fan. To enter to win, tell us your most cherished “habit of the heart” in the comment section of this post. We will announce the winner on the Beached Miami Facebook page on Thursday afternoon. Update: And the winner of the giveaway is …
For more information about the concert, visit the event page on the Arsht Center’s website.

Graciela, that works! Consider yourself in the running.
Shaving my knuckles.
I love making music! But people seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Ticket giveaway help a girl out! Kweli & classical?! Couldn’t ask for a better Friday night.
My most cherished “habit of the heart?” Comic books, without a doubt. Growing up, my mom raised my brother and I mostly by herself, while working full time teaching braille (she’s blind). She got us into reading comics at a young age, and I’ve been ever since, for 20+ years. Comics helped to develop so much inside me, from my vocabulary to my imagination to giving me positive male role models. So, without a doubt, comic books are my habit of the heart.
My most cherished habit of heart would probably be writing, and seeing Talib would give me the inspiration to continue scrawling more wonderful passages for some time to come!
My most cherished habit of the heart is writing poetry. I’ve been published before and hope I can continue to be published. I’ve also competed in local slam poetry competitions. I’m currently working on a project involving poetry as well. Hope I can win these tickets & see 1 of my heroes live. Thanks.
My most cherished habit of the heart is reading. I’ve read a lot since I was a child and it has led me to pursue a degree in English which I am a semester away from completing.
My most cherished habit of the heart is using my creativity to make music. After hearing “The Manifesto” in 7th grade from Talib Kweli off of the Lyricist Lounge compilation, it changed my views on hip-hop and what it means to be a good MC. I use it as a checklist when it comes to making my own music.
I may be one of the few people here who wants to see this on Friday more for RES rather than Talib Kweli [although he is great too, of course]. Would love an opportunity to go for free!
Also: my most cherished habit of the heart is one-minute blitz style Facebook games. So there.
most cherished habit of the heart = live music shows… even more, free ones!!!
My heart is with real HIPHOP, give me that!
my most cherished “habit of heart” is reading blogs about what’s poppin in Miami… 305 till I die yo. Gimme tickets porfa! <3 <3
I was introduced to Talib by a dear love, I was never a fan of hip hop, thought it wasn’t my thing, but Talib Kwali has changed that.
Habit of the Heart, hmmm I’m not sure how to answer that but I do love that idle warship album :)
My most cherished habit of the heart is riding my bike.
I want to donate these tickets to Mitt Romney. He needs them the most.
Heart needs great music…Talib
