Photos of the Year: People

By | December 27th, 2011 | No Comments

My favorite subject to photograph, by far, is the human face. As the primary photographer for Beached Miami, I’m constantly aiming my camera at the interesting faces I encounter around the city. The following photos are all from 2011 and, unless otherwise noted, I snapped them. To keep up with my photographic exploits for years to come, you can follow me on Twitter, where I’m given to instamgramming and immaturity in equal measure.

Sketchy Roundup Holiday Edition

By | December 20th, 2011 | No Comments

With the Sketchy Holiday Party at Lester’s on Thursday night, we asked several Sketchy Miami artists to deck the virtual halls with holiday-inspired portraits. Here are five from the series, which you can see in its entirety on sketchymiami.com. To learn more about the party — an unsilent night of live art, music, drinks, food, and possibly a gift if you get a lucky raffle ticket — visit the Facebook event page.

Photos: Special Disco Version, Black Lips at Grand Central

By | December 2nd, 2011 | 1 Comment

With YACHT at Electric Pickle, Neon Indian at Bardot, and Special Disco Version (the DJ project of LCD Soundsystem members James Murphy and Pat Mahoney) and Black Lips at Grand Central, Thursday night presented the music fiend with a dilemma. (See the Art Basel Music Guide — tonight is barely easier.) After letting a dart toss decide it, we ended up at Grand Central, where there was a wrap-around line of people who were probably hoping Nancy Whang would show up and SDV would transform into almost LCD. (Whang is in town for a DJ set at Bardot Saturday night. Again, see the Art Basel Music Guide.) That didn’t happen, but it was still a fun show. Here are our favorite 10 photos from the night. To see many more, head over to the Beached Miami Facebook page.

Getting Ready For The Basel

By | November 29th, 2011 | No Comments

The official start of Art Basel Miami Beach and its attendant madness is just two days away. So far, we’ve put out the Art Basel Top Ten List and the Art Basel Music Guide, featuring the Beached Basel Bash at Electric Pickle Wednesday night (wink), to help you plan your itinerary. But none of those addresses the all-important ABMB question: What to wear? For those of you looking for fashion guidance, roll video.

Miami Critical Mass Rolling Out

By | November 27th, 2011 | No Comments

Instead of photographing Critical Mass on Friday night (as we do almost every month), we decided to shoot video of the mass gearing up for the monthly bike ride at Government Center, its usual downtown starting point. The song in the video is “This Is The Timing” by ANR, which is headlining the Beached Basel Bash on Wednesday alongside Millionyoung, PLAINS, Little Beard, and other fine Miami talent. To learn more about the BBB, visit the FB event page. But first, roll tape.
