Notes: Idle Warship, which formed in 2009 when Talib Kweli and singer RES (aka Shareese Ballard) permanently cemented nearly 10 years of on-and-off collaborative work, will team up with Miami-based conductor Sam Hyken and an 11-piece chamber orchestra to merge the worlds of classical music and hip hop. In 2011, Kweli and RES released Idle Warship’s debut album, Habits of the Heart, which utilized an electro-pop landscape to showcase Kweli’s impossibly quick and cerebral rhymes with RES’s world-class pop vocals. Kweli, largely known as one of the finest lyricists in hip hop history, will also perform solo material from his vast discography.

Notes: NYC hardcore punks Reagan Youth return to Churchill’s, where they played in June 2011. Led by the tireless Paul Bajika, the influential band’s only original member, Reagan Youth serves as a quasi-memorial to his former lead singer and friend David Rubinstein (aka Dave Insurgent), who committed suicide in 1993. The music was a mix of early NYC speed-bop punk with an introduction of early hardcore that, despite its name, preached peace and tolerance more than political beliefs.
