Charlie Kaufman’s unorthodox adaptation of Susan Orlean’s non-fiction book, The Orchid Thief, is one of my favorite movies. Nicolas Cage, who plays Donald and Charlie Kaufman, is so convincing as a neurotic Jew-fro’d Yid you’d think Bangkok Dangerous had a bris. The movie is set in L.A. and Miami and ends with an epic chase through the Everglades in the dead of night. Beware of the gator.
The movie that should have scared tourists away from Miami for good but, sadly, didn’t. I’m sure the hotel where the Chainsaw Shower Scene was filmed is a stop on some tour.
3. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Before Jim Carrey went morose, Miami inspired one of his great comedic performances. Who doesn’t remember the first time they saw this?
