Ripe off of playing Bonnaroo last weekend, Swedish trio Junip is playing a sure-to-mesmerize show Wednesday night at Bardot with local sound sculptor Helado Negro opening.
Featuring Swedish-Argentine indie folky José González on vocals and classical guitar, Junip is wrapping up a brief U.S. tour before catching up with the European festival circuit and, according to a New Times interview, hitting the studio for the follow-up to the trio’s first full-length, Fields.
While tickets for Junip at Bardot are selling out as you read (can’t say we didn’t warn ya’), we do have two free tickets to give away for nu-disco DJ Jaques Renault, who’ll hoist the glittering ball at Bardot Friday night. Now, you can hold the name he shares with a certain repulsive Twin Peaks character against him, but don’t write Renault off for trying to bring disco back. Bell bottoms be damned! The 28-year-old New Yorker just wants you to dance and, according to Paper Mag, no less a rug cutter than James Murphy considers Renault up to the task of unhinging our generation’s rusty joints.
If that endorsement isn’t good enough (and it really should be), here’s Renault’s low-fi video for the high-gloss track “Bad Skinned”. To enter to win the free tickets, simply leave a comment on this post. (Disco-y interjections such as “Outta sight!” and “Dy-no-mite!” encouraged.) I will announce the winner, chosen randomly with the aid of a salad spinner, on our Facebook page early on Thursday.
