FDOT to add bike lanes to Red Road stretch

The Red Road bike lanes represent a victory for local cyclists.

Heads up: On Jan. 27, at the City of West Miami Community Center, the Florida Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting to discuss a project that would add bicycle lanes on both sides of Red Road between S.W. 24th Street (Coral Way) and S.W. 8th Street. The project would also construct new sidewalks “where there are none to provide connection to existing sidewalks on both sides of the roadway where state owned property is available.” The $4.3 million project is expected to start in the spring of 2012 and last 400 days. The Jan. 27 meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will give the public a chance to view and comment on the project design.
