It’s been a while since we’ve put out an episode of the Beached Miami Podcast. But when we scheduled an interview with Radiolab hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, who will be hosting a live performance called “In The Dark” with comedian Demetri Martin and musician Thao Nguyen at the Fillmore Miami Beach tonight, it was obvious that we had to lay down some sound. In this conversation between Robby Campbell and the WNYC hosts, Abumrad makes a bold prediction — “There are moments in this show that I am almost objectively certain are going to blow your mind right out of your face” — and Krulwich talks about man’s “earlier, stupider eye” and promises “a Broadway show of eyeballs”. Enjoy.

Radiolab Live Ticket Giveaway

Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, hosts of the popular WNYC show Radiolab, are Miami-bound to stage a live performance at the Fillmore Miami Beach on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Billed as a mélange of science, rock and roll, comedy, and dance, Radiolab Live is an exploration of “the dawn of sight and the evolution of the eye” — a premise that fans of the curiosity-fueled, science-centric radio show might have seen coming. With comedian Demetri Martin joining the hosts on stage and too-talented Thao Nguyen scoring the performance, Radiolab Live promises to deliver on its ticket cost ($51.00-$61.50).

We have a pair of tickets to giveaway to the performance. To enter to win, simply leave a comment on this post that uses “Jad” as an adjective and “Krulwich” as a verb. Example: “That jad wanker krulwiched my sandwich and hightailed.” We will announce the winner of the tickets on the Beached Miami Facebook page on Monday. Until then, enjoy Radiolab’s Miami Vice-inspired promo video. Funny thing is, they probably think Miami’s not like that anymore.

Update: And the winner is ….

Radiolab Live

'Radiolab Live' is headed to Miami.

If anyone should know how to conduct a fascinating experiment, it’s Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, the public radio rock stars de rigueur behind Radiolab, which delves into science with the curiosity (and sometimes the over-cuteness) of a bewildered child. On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Radiolab will stage a live performance at the Fillmore Miami Beach with comedian Demetri Martin and live scoring by musical dynamo Thao Nguyen (lead singer of The Get Down Stay Down) in a live experiment that will combine science, suspense, comedy, music, and dance.

Sounds awesome.

Tickets are pricey starting at $51.00 (including fees), but you can save up to $10 with the Sweat Records discount code: “SWEAT”. To learn more, check out the event page, and stay tuned to Beached Miami for interviews with the Radiolab hosts and Demetri Martin as Feb. 1 draws nigh.

Update: There are now two Radiolab Live performances at the Fillmore Miami Beach, one on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and one on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Update: The Radiolab Live performance on Tuesday, Jan. 31, is cancelled.
