Pics from Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin’s Arsham ‘Alter’ Party

Anyone who mentions the art at last night’s Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin party is yanking your chain. It was beautiful, particularly Xavier Veilhan’s wood sculptures in the downstairs showroom. But that was besides the point. Crab cakes rested atop slices of eggplant on silver trays, wine flowed gratis, and there was art in the way. The point was to be seen in one’s finest scarf and to ignore — as casually as possible — the fact that Jeffrey Loria was in attendance. The hundreds of attendees, many of whom gave away their foreign provenance with a double kiss, were happy to oblige. The muted works in Daniel Arsham’s “Alter” were literally collapsing for attention — and they deserved it — but the exhibit space functioned mainly as an antechamber between the doorway and the garden party out back. No surprise. Art Basel is closing in, and the art world itself is collapsing upon Miami. The music was fun, and the people were beautiful. We danced to LCD Soundsystem (whose James Murphy is reportedly in town for a show at the Raleigh Hotel on Wednesday night) and thereby limbered up for the weekend of aesthetic inundation ahead. If last night is any indication, it will be a lot more fun than a trip to the museum.

Here are some more pics from the event.
